EXPLORE THE COURSE ABOVE

You can interact with the live course directly in the window above, or open it in a new tab here. To maximize engagement, I designed the course using multiple Articulate Rise features:

  • Clear visual demonstration through embedded YouTube video

  • Digestible lessons with interactive tabs that break down complex concepts

  • Engaging exploration using clickable image blocks to spotlight key color areas

  • Active practice with knowledge checks (sorting, multiple choice, etc.) to reinforce understanding

  • Flexible microlearning structure designed to fit busy schedules and short attention spans

  • Cohesive, professional experience through a custom theme and visuals

  • Inclusive design with full accessibility support, including alt text on images

APPROACH

Analysis (ADDIE)

  • Identified learner pain points: beginners struggled to mix colors, traditional theory felt dry, and live demos weren’t scalable.

  • Surveyed learners to uncover frustrations and preferences.

  • Reviewed common mistakes in color mixing (muddy secondaries, weak highlights/shadows).

Design & Development (Backward Design & ADDIE):

  • Defined learning goals first (mix primary colors to create secondary colors, understand highlights/shadows).

  • Designed microlearning lessons in Articulate Rise, using flipped learning: practice before theory.

  • Created multimedia content: embedded YouTube demos, interactive tabs, clickable images, and knowledge checks.

  • Iterated content using AI tools (Articulate 360 AI Assistant and ChatGPT) to reduce development time and improve clarity.

Implementation (SAM & ADDIE):

  • Built the course in Articulate Rise with a customized theme, navigation flow, and accessibility features (alt text on images, etc.).

  • Delivered interactive lessons with optional vocabulary resources for deeper learning.

  • Used just-in-time content to provide information exactly when learners needed it.

Evaluation (ADDIE):

  • Measured learner engagement and confidence through knowledge checks and feedback.

  • Collected qualitative learner feedback showing increased confidence in color mixing and improved practical painting results.

  • Observed that the flipped approach turned abstract color theory into actionable “aha!” moments for learners..

IMPACT

  • Free, easy-to-use microcourse accessible anytime.

  • Learners could reliably mix secondary colors and apply highlights/shadows effectively.

  • The flipped approach increased engagement and practical understanding.
