PROBLEM

  • Organization had never developed a soft skills program.

  • Soft skills are critical for sales but hard to teach and assess without live instruction.

  • Needed to reskill learners with zero experience for junior sales roles in just three months.

APPROACH

  • Analysis (ADDIE):

    • Reviewed business needs, learner personas, and target job competencies.

    • Identified key soft skills for success in entry-level sales roles and mapped these to measurable outcomes.

Design & Development (Backward Design & SAM):

    • Designed a variety of instructional formats—text, video, images, and interactive elements—to support diverse learning preferences.

    • Structured capstone assignments that required learners to apply skills in meaningful ways: creating slide decks, recording video reflections, and analyzing case studies. These deliverables both practiced and measured real-world soft skills.

    • Created detailed instructions and supporting GIFs/images to guide learners through new formats.

    • Beta tested all materials with representative learners to ensure clarity and usability.

    Implementation (SAM):

    • Built the program entirely asynchronously with human-graded, actionable feedback loops.

    • Supported learners in building real-world sales communication skills through video submissions and reflection activities.

    • Monitored learner engagement and iterated on materials during beta testing to address challenges early.

    Evaluation (Backward Design):

    • Assessed skill acquisition via capstone submissions and instructor feedback.

    • Measured clarity and usability of instructions through targeted beta testing.

    • Generated insights that shaped a template for future asynchronous soft skills programs.

OUTCOMES

  • Delivered program on time and successfully launched.

  • Established a scalable framework later adapted for additional soft skills programs.

  • First fully beta-tested program in the organization, influencing QA and instructional processes.

  • Learners gained measurable real-world sales communication skills entirely online.
