IN THIS LESSON
Welcome to your path to a solid curriculum!
Think of this course as a blueprint for constructing your course. As a course creator—or instructional designer—you’re like the general contractor of a house, ensuring every part of the process is carefully planned and executed. You'll start with the basics and work through the essentials of course design.

Module 1: Foundation to Design Instruction
You'll learn a foundation that gives you the skills you need to build a sturdy, well-crafted course. Just like you wouldn't start hammering nails without first understanding the fundamentals of architecture, you need to grasp the basics of instructional design.
Module 2: Discover Learner Needs
This is your discovery phase. Imagine you’re planning a home for a specific client—whether they’re a multi-generational family, a couple of empty nesters, or hosting an Airbnb. Their different needs will look like very different homes. Understanding who you're building for ensures your course meets your learners' unique needs.
Modules 3 and 4: Design Objectives & Strategies
You’ll create your blueprint. This is where the real planning happens. Like drawing up architectural plans, you'll develop clear learning objectives and ensure your ideas fit together before you start "building" your course content.
Module 5: Build the Content
The house starts to take shape. Here, you’ll follow your blueprint to create engaging course materials. It’s tempting to jump ahead—like picking out paint colors before the walls are up—but sticking to the plan ensures a solid structure.
Module 6: Evaluate the Results
After learners have gone through the course, you’ll probably want to make adjustments—small ones at first like installing towel hooks and blackout curtains, then eventually something larger like a home renovation. With thoughtful evaluation, you can continually improve, ensuring your course helps students achieve their objectives.
